Accessibility and Guests with Disabilities

Great Keppel Island Hideaway welcomes guests of all abilities, and our team is committed to providing a friendly, respectful and inclusive experience wherever possible.

Due to the natural environment and remote location of Great Keppel Island, accessibility can be challenging. Great Keppel Island is a predominantly sandy island with uneven terrain, and there is no public jetty available for passenger arrivals. Ferry transfers generally involve boarding and disembarking directly onto the beach, which may be difficult for guests with limited mobility or those who use a wheelchair.

Beach Access and Island Transfers

Access to the island is via a beach landing. Depending on tides, weather conditions and the vessel being used, guests may need to navigate sand, shallow water, steps or uneven surfaces when boarding or disembarking.

Our friends at Keppel Dive have a beach wheelchair available, which may assist some guests when moving across sandy areas. Availability must be confirmed in advance and may depend on operational requirements.

Guests requiring mobility assistance should contact both Great Keppel Island Hideaway and their chosen ferry operator before travelling so that individual needs and available assistance can be discussed.

Accommodation Access

Great Keppel Island Hideaway has a portable wheelchair ramp that may assist guests when entering selected accommodation rooms.

However, not all rooms, pathways, bathrooms, public areas or resort facilities are fully wheelchair accessible. Sandy paths, slopes, steps and uneven ground are present throughout the property and wider island.

We strongly recommend contacting our reservations team before booking so we can discuss the most suitable available accommodation and provide accurate information based on your individual mobility requirements.

Trained and Supportive Staff

Our staff undertake training in assisting guests with disabilities and will provide reasonable assistance wherever it is safe and practical to do so.

This may include:

While our team will always do their best to assist, staff may not be able to provide personal care, manual lifting or specialist mobility support.

Planning Your Visit

Because accessibility requirements vary considerably, we ask guests with mobility, medical, sensory or other accessibility needs to contact us before making a reservation.

Please let us know:

Providing this information allows us to give you realistic advice and determine whether the available facilities will be suitable for your needs.

Assistance Animals

Accredited assistance animals are welcome. Guests travelling with an assistance animal should notify us before arrival so that transport, accommodation and operational arrangements can be discussed.

Contact Us Before Booking

We want every guest to understand the island environment and make an informed decision before travelling.

For accessibility enquiries, please contact our reservations team before booking. We will be happy to discuss your individual requirements, explain the current access conditions and advise what assistance may be available.

Although Great Keppel Island presents genuine accessibility challenges, our team will always work with guests to make their visit as comfortable, safe and enjoyable as reasonably possible.
